Live Recording Workshop
Melbourne 2012
Sound Files now Available!
We have sorted all the sound files from the day and are happy to announce they are ready for anyone that wants to grab them.
What do you get?
43 Sound Files
Over 7 gig of data (zipped into several smaller files for easier download)
All the sound files have been kept at the maximum resolutions so they files are all 96KHz, 24 Bit.
The initial download is a mixdown to the most common format used in the Sound Librarian catalogue. A combination of a stereo mic signal and a mono shotgun mic signal. This provides a good mix of freqeuncy ranges with some spacial properties. For most people this will provide some interesting material for listening and sound editing work.
These are the full takes, every second that the recorders were running has been included. This is to provide context from the presentation speech as well as ensuring you have as much material as possible to play with. It does mean you are going to have to go exploring, and this was also done on purpose so you can enjoy the sense of discovery all over again!
Why did we not include all the seperate microphone channels?
Well we have, but all the material from the day is over 30 gig, so we thought most of you would not need to download that. The Mix tracks provide useful material but also functions as a preview for all the material recorded. If anyone actually wants individual mic channels from any of the takes, simply contact us, tell us which Mix tracks you would like to have the full mic selection from and we will provide you with the links. This saves us all time and bandwidth.
How do I purchase the sounds?
Click on the Buy Now button below, pay via Paypal and we will send you a download link for the files on the same day.
Then download the sounds at your leisure and enjoy!

World Class Facility
We are proud to announce the support and involvement of Dockland Studio Melbourne.

Tentative Schedule
The exact content for the workshop is still in development but will include material such as
- Arrows in flight
- Arrow impacts in various materials
- Flaming arrows in flight
- Flaming torches, igniting and movement
- Small scale fires
- Various materials exposed to dry ice
- Recording quite sound sources like burning steel wool, watch
mechanics, internal computer mechanics
- Creating bullet impacts
- Micing and recording vehicles (likely a car of motorbike)
We have the space for as long as we want it so this event can run for several hours if there is interest and material to discuss. Between actual recording times Stephan will explain the process of setup and equipment use. The audience is encouraged to come armed with questions and discussions about recording techniques will be a large part of the days proceedings.
Many of these sound sources are completely new to Stephan and he will be dealing with the unknown on the day. This is an important part of any sound designers work and fear and failure are issues to be dealt with. How challenges are dealt with is a regular part of the process and this is an important part of this workshop. For this reason many of the days events will be run with little or no prior rehearsal so everyone can experience the unknown and unexpected.
